Curriculum Expectations:

C2.3 Demonstrate the ability to make and support healthy, informed choices about smoking, using their understanding of factors that affect decisions about smoking and a variety of personal and interpersonal skills and thinking processes.
Procedure:
Before (Activation):
Have the students visit a Wallwisher page and leave their sticky notes (this could also be done in a previous class or at home ahead of class)
Using a media cart or Smartboard, look at the Wallwisher page as a class, read and summarize responses
During (Minds-On):
Introduce the unit, using Smart Notebook software or Kidspiration to create a K-W-L chart. Fill in the K (What students know) and W (what students wonder or want to know), based on responses on the Wallwisher page and on class discussion.
Play the "Clear the Air" online game - if in the computer lab, each child can play individually. In a classroom, the game can be played using a media cart or Smartboard, either all together as a class, or with the class divided into two teams.
After (Consolidation):
Discuss the game as a class, and have students complete exit cards. The question for the exit cards is: Write three things that the "Clear the Air" game tells us about smoking or tobacco use.
